SACRAMENTO – Santa Clara County will now keep $1 million that was destined to be paid to the state thanks to a bill introduced by Senator Jim Beall and signed into law today by the Governor

“Instead of giving $1 million to Sacramento, our county can hang onto the cash to re-invest in services for run-away and homeless youth to keep them safe,’’ Beall said.

SACRAMENTO – On Jan. 1, California’s elderly and people with disabilities will be allowed to use an electronic signature stamp to register to vote over the Secretary of State’s online system after Sen. Jim Beall’s legislation was signed Monday by Gov. Brown.

SACRAMENTO – Senate Bill 131, a proposal to increase the statute of limitations for survivors of childhood molestation to sue their abusers, was approved Tuesday by the Assembly Judiciary Committee on 6-2 vote. Two members did not vote.

SACRAMENTO – Legislation by Sen. Jim Beall to overhaul the statute of limitations so adult survivors of child molestation can seek justice in civil courts against their abusers was passed Monday by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“Senate Bill 131 changes California’s antiquated statute of limitations on civil claims brought forward for childhood sexual abuse,’’ said Beall, D-San Jose. “The bill gives victims more time to recognize the psychological trauma that is linked to their childhood abuse and take action to gain a measure of justice.’’

SACRAMENTO – Legislation by Senator Jim Beall to provide judges with greater discretion to protect estates of conserved seniors and people with disabilities from unjustified or exorbitant bills and fees won bipartisan approval from the Senate Judiciary Committee today.

“Senate Bill 156 will level the playing field in probate court when fee disputes are litigated,’’ said Beall, D-San Jose. “It will protect conserved adults from being charged exorbitant fees by their conservator.

SACRAMENTO – The Senate Committee on Public Safety on Tuesday unanimously approved Senator Jim Beall’s proposal to allow Santa Clara County to keep $1 million in state funds and re-invest that cash in local shelters for runway or homeless youths. Current law requires the county to return that money to the state.

“Senate Bill 347 enables Santa Clara County  to pump more money into the services that will help children and young adults who have no where to go and stay safe,’’ Beall said.

Senate Bill 347 now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee for approval.
