Here are some of the highlights from my week:
- The National Alliance on Mental Illness presented me with its Legislator of the Year Award during a ceremony at its Santa Clara County office. It was a distinct honor and more so because NAMI and I have worked together on issues such as mental health parity and the improving behaviorial science training for peace officers.
- In addition to attending Senate floor sessions and my assigned committee hearings, I met with constituents and representatives for organizations, including:
California Highway Patrol Capt. Richard Desmond; Gary Kremen, of the Santa Clara Valley Water District; Orange County Transportation Authority, Southern California Association of Governments; Riverside County Transportation Commission, and LA Metro.
- I also spoke about prison reform at Diesel Books in Larkspur as part of a book launch discussion of “Bad: The Autobiography of James Carr.’’
