Senator Jim Beall's Reaction to Approval of Housing Bills

September 15, 2017

SACRAMENTO – Senator Jim Beall, D-San Jose, chairman of the Senate Transportation and Housing, issues this statement regarding the Legislature’s historic approval of a housing package to meet California’s pressing shortage of affordable homes and apartments:

“For too long, people in our communities have been priced out of a shrinking housing market because California lacked a comprehensive and coordinated plan that invests in affordable home creation and adopts strong regulatory reforms to support building. Today, the Legislature took a stand to change the paradigm.

“Seventy percent of Californians cannot afford a home. Nearly 120,000 Californians are homeless and two-thirds of them live on the streets. Senate Bill 3 combined with the housing bills sent to the Governor today can give those people help and hope by offering them the opportunity to move into a home.’’
