Sen. Jim Beall's Statement on Proposed Recommendations to Stop Sexual Harassment in the Legislature

June 15, 2018

CAMPBELL -- Senator Jim Beall, D-San Jose, issued this statement regarding draft recommendations by the Joint Legislative Subcommittee to eliminate sexual harassment in the Legislature:

“After decades of complicity, the Legislature is working to restore our employees’ confidence that any workplace harassment will not be tolerated and I am glad to see action is being taken. It is absolutely unacceptable that people who have been subjected to harassment feel powerless. We are obligated to take decisive action to win back their trust so they can come forward with their complaints without fear of retaliation. The subcommittee’s recommendations are a step in the right direction. But we must continue to evaluate its effectiveness and make any necessary adjustments.’’
