LEGISLATION UPDATE

Ten of my bills were signed into law by Governor Brown. These bills range from protecting to protect foster youth, increasing the margin of safety for police and people with mental illnesses, and accelerating the construction of the BART extension to downtown San Jose.

FREE CAR SEAT SAFETY CLINICS

Three out of four child car seats are not properly secured, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. To ensure that your child is safe while riding in their car seat, I am sponsoring two free Child Car Seat Safety Clinics in September. Trained professionals will examine your child's car seat to ensure it is installed as it should be.

SCHOOL RESOURCE FAIR

 

Join Telemundo 48 and me for a Back 2 School Resources Fair to provide students from low-income families with free school supplies and educational materials. The fair is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Washington Elementary School, 100 Oak St., San Jose.

A united effort by my office and authorities has ended a neighborhood eyesore and public health hazard that festered for years.

LEXINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GETS $3.9 MILLION IN STATE FUNDING

After working with the Los Gatos Union School District for more than two years, I am glad to report that I was able to help persuade the State Allocation Board to reimburse the district for $3.9 million in hazard mitigation costs related to the construction of the new Lexington School District.

Community Coffee

My series of community coffees continues on Friday, Feb. 20, at Maple Leaf Donuts, 6473 Almaden Expressway, San Jose. I'll be there from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

These meetings help me understand what issues are important to the residents of Senate District 15. Also, residents who are having a problem with a state agency can seek a clarification through my office.
