Assembly Bill 159, legislation that preserves foster family agencies during an era of budget deficits and cuts, was signed into law by Gov. Brown. The bill goes into effect on Jan. 1.

"I'm very pleased Governor Brown shares my commitment to do everything possible in these difficult times to protect our foster children," said Assemblymember Jim Beall, who introduced the bill on Jan. 19.

Beall's bill sdds one seat each for Santa Clara and Alameda Counties

Assembly Bill 57, legislation introduced by Assemblymember Jim Beall to create a balanced and equitable representation on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, was approved today on a 71-5 vote in the Assembly. The bill now moves to the Senate.

AB 57 updates the number of MTC members from 19 to 21, adding one more representative each for Santa Clara and Alameda to give them a total of three delegates each, equaling the number of San Francisco-based voting representatives.

Help make Assembly Bill 1600, the California Mental Health and Substance Abuse Parity Act, a reality.

AB 1600 ends the disparity in health coverage benefits between mental and physical illnesses. It requires health insurers to furnish coverage for mental disorders and substance abuse equivalent to the coverage already provided for physical illnesses and injuries.

Help make Assembly Bill 12, the California Fostering Connections to Success Act.

AB 12 uses federal funding to help bridge the gap for foster children from ages 18 to 21. By providing support at this critical stage in a child's life, we are able to prevent homelessness and incarceration for youth who age out of the foster care system when they reach legal age.
