The nation’s first collective bargaining agreement for minor league baseball took a significant step toward becoming reality for California’s 362 minor league players on Wednesday, when the Assembly Labor and Employment Committee passed Senate Bill (SB) 332, authored by Senator Dave Cortese.  




Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday signed Senate Bill (SB) 132, a budget bill that incorporated legislation by Senator Dave Cortese establishing historic worker safety standards on motion picture productions. The bipartisan legislation reflects two years of negotiations between studios and labor representatives following the 2021 death of a cinematographer on the ‘Rust’ film set.

The Governor was joined by the joint authors of Senate Bill (SB) 150: Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose), Senator Maria Elena Durazo (D-Los Angeles), Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas (D-Los Angeles), Senator Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach), and Assemblymember Luz Rivas (D-San Fernando Valley).  




Senator Dave Cortese joined Santa Clara County Board President Susan Ellenberg on Friday to announce the launch of a new Guaranteed Income Pilot Program for Unhoused High School Students, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing crucial support to students experiencing homelessness in Santa Clara County.




The State Senate passed legislation on Wednesday that will enhance California’s training pipeline, community benefits, and quality jobs standards in state and federal infrastructure programs.

SB 150 will embed workforce and community benefit requirements into contracting related to the federal Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act (IIJA), the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the CHIPS and Science Act (CHIPS Act).
