Beall helps get $208 million for Santa Clara County Superior Court

SACRAMENTO – The Santa Clara County Superior Court will receive more than $208 million in state funding, shepherded through the state budget by Assemblymember Jim Beall, for the construction of a new Family Justice Center in downtown San Jose. The appropriation was approved Wednesday by the Legislature.

Santa Clara County Open Space Authority Praises Bill for Tax Savings

SACRAMENTO -- Assembly Bill 2388, legislation to streamline laws to make it easier for the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority to protect and maintain public lands, was signed into law by the Governor today.

"I have always been a strong supporter of  protecting and increasing open space in Santa Clara County,’’ said Beall, who as a former member of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors helped secure local open space and protect watersheds.

SACRAMENTO – Legislation making it easier for people with disabilities to register to vote over the state’s online system was introduced Tuesday by Sen. Jim Beall.  Senate Bill 111 is sponsored by California Secretary of State Debra Bowen.

“Senate Bill 111 gives people with disabilities a convenient and quick way to submit their online voter registration form with the use of a signature stamp,’’ Beall said. “With a simple and straightforward update in the statutes, the state can grant them the same accessibility the rest of us have in registering to vote.’’

Community Coffee

My series of community coffees continues on Friday, Feb. 20, at Maple Leaf Donuts, 6473 Almaden Expressway, San Jose. I'll be there from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

These meetings help me understand what issues are important to the residents of Senate District 15. Also, residents who are having a problem with a state agency can seek a clarification through my office.

LEXINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GETS $3.9 MILLION IN STATE FUNDING

After working with the Los Gatos Union School District for more than two years, I am glad to report that I was able to help persuade the State Allocation Board to reimburse the district for $3.9 million in hazard mitigation costs related to the construction of the new Lexington School District.

Join Telemundo 48 and me for a Back 2 School Resources Fair to provide students from low-income families with free school supplies and educational materials. The fair is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Washington Elementary School, 100 Oak St., San Jose.

FREE CAR SEAT SAFETY CLINICS

Three out of four child car seats are not properly secured, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. To ensure that your child is safe while riding in their car seat, I am sponsoring two free Child Car Seat Safety Clinics in September. Trained professionals will examine your child's car seat to ensure it is installed as it should be.
