Senate Select Committee on Mental Health Informational Hearing: Mental Health Training for Police Officers

May 08, 2015

How can our police officers prevent volatile confrontations with people who have mental illnesses or developmental disabilities? Join Senators Jim Beall and Holly Mitchell for a hearing of the Senate Select Committee Friday, May 8th, 2015 from 10am-12pm, at the Science Center in Los Angeles to examine mental health training of police officers.

There is a growing awareness throughout law enforcement nationwide of the value of behavioral health training for officers. Research proves that evidence-based behavioral health training reduces potentially dangerous encounters between peace officers and people with mental illnesses or intellectual disabilities. Local and State experts will explain the benefits of training and the innovative training programs underway.
