Senator Jim Beall's Reaction to Gov. Brown's Revised Budget

May 14, 2015

SACRAMENTO -- Senator Jim Beall, D-San Jose, issues this statement regarding the budget revisions.

‘’The Governor’s budget is disappointing because it falls woefully short in funding services for people with developmental disabilities.  His proposal does not include funding a minimum wage increase. In short, this budget actually serves as a cut.

‘’More than 170 homes have closed and many providers were waiting to see what relief the revised budget offered but in fact there is none. Sixty-four of my colleagues have urged the Governor to adopt a 10 percent increase for provider rates and also for the regional centers to keep the system from collapsing. But their voices, along with every Californian whose right to live an independent life is guaranteed by the Lanterman Act, were ignored today.’’
