Senator Beall’s Reaction to the Veto of SB 1019

September 29, 2018

CAMPBELL -- Senator Jim Beall released the following statement in reaction to the Governor’s veto of Senate Bill 1019, a proposal that helps students coping with serious behavioral health disorders gain improved access to therapy and counseling through their schools.

“Five-hundred eighty-thousand students in California aren’t getting the mental health treatment they need. SB 1019 would have made it easier for them to connect with the services and support they require to succeed in school and throughout their lives. The bill would have greatly helped teachers in the classroom by reducing students’ behavioral problems. I am disappointed this bill has been vetoed; it disregards the mental health needs of children.’’
