Assemblymember Jim Beall, Jr. said today he opposes attempts to stop a Citizens Compensation Commission ruling that cuts legislators’ pay, per diem, and car allowances by 18 percent.

“I disagree with the legal challenge to overturn the compensation commission’s decision,’’ Beall said. “We have a process that has been set up to regulate legislators’ pay and we should abide by it.’’

Beall's Legislation To Improve Foster Care Advances To Assembly Floor

Proposed legislation to extend foster care benefits to age 21 moved a giant step closer to becoming a reality after the Assembly Appropriations Committee endorsed Assembly Bill 12. The bill now moves to the Assembly Floor.

Legislation to Extend Foster Care Benefits to Age 21 Advances

With broad bipartisan support, Assembly Bill 12, a proposal that taps available federal monies to help finance California’s Kin-GAP program and to offer foster care benefits to age 21, sailed through the Assembly on a quick  72-0 vote. The bill now moves to the state Senate.

AB 1600 Advances to the State Senate for Consideration

Legislation authored by Assemblymember Jim Beall, Jr. to require health insurers to cover treatment of mental health disorders and addictions equal to the coverage they provide for physical illnesses and injuries passed the Assembly today on a vote of 50 ayes, 26 noes, and four not voting.

UCLA Study Indicates 5 million Californians Need Mental Health Support

Assembly Bill 1600, a cost-saving mental health and substance abuse parity bill that will make treatment affordable for millions of Californians, was approved Thursday by the Legislature.

The bill -- introduced by Assemblymember Jim Beall -- now goes to the Governor’s office.

A date to remember: April 12, 2012, the day we broke ground for the BART Silicon Valley Berryessa Extension.

After decades of planning and haggling for funding, we are finally beginning construction on BART. Trains are expected to begin rolling into San Jose’s station on Mabury Road in a little more than four years.

California's public schools are at a crossroads. After four years of cuts, our schools have lost $20 billion in funding and 38,000 full-time teachers while student enrollment tops more than 6 million.
