SACRAMENTO -- A new Senate housing proposal to invest $5 billion to increase affordable home building and housing for people who are homeless will also create thousands of  jobs to bolster California’s economy, said Sen. Jim Beall (D-San Jose) who drafted the budget proposal with Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley).

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Jim Beall’s legislation to restore crucial mortgage and foreclosure protections that expired at the start of this year was passed today by the Senate and now moves to the Assembly.

Senate Bill 818 proposes to renew key consumer safeguards in the California Homeowner’s Bill of Rights, protections that were adopted in the aftermath of the 2008 recession that contributed to 800,000 homes entering foreclosure. The bill gave borrowers immediate help and protection in the event of inaction by their lenders.

SAN JOSE – Thanks to Sen. Jim Beall’s persistent urging, the California Department of Transportation will issue over $10.2 million in new contracts to clean up Silicon Valley freeways.

“With this new state funding, drivers in Santa Clara County are going to see cleaner highways with less trash,’’ said Sen. Beall, chairman of the state Senate’s Transportation and Housing Committee.
