The California Senate has passed Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 18, titled “Compassionate California”. Introduced into the Senate by Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose), the Resolution would declare California to be the first Compassionate State in the United States of America. The Resolution passed the Senate with no opposition (32-0) and now heads to the Assembly Floor for a vote before it is officially enacted.




Virtual “Earth Week” event will highlight S.B. 582 and California's recent initiative to restore the climate

 

WHO: In honor of “Earth Day” and “Earth Week”, the Foundation for Climate Restoration (F4CR) will host a webinar with Senator Henry Stern (D-Los Angeles) and Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose) focused on climate restoration, the safe and permanent removal of the trillion tons of atmospheric CO2 that continues to warm our planet.

Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose) issued the following statement on the verdict reached in the Derek Chauvin Trial. The former Minneapolis Police officer was found guilty of murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd:

“While many of us are relieved that some measure of justice was served through this verdict, today only serves as a reminder that there is still so much work to be done to dismantle the systemic injustice that pervades our law enforcement and criminal justice systems. Rest in peace George Floyd.”




All Home released a new Regional Action Plan this week to bring together all nine Bay Area counties in an effort to house unsheltered people indoors and reduce the number of people becoming homeless. The plan is put forth by the Regional Impact Council (RIC) convened by All Home in April 2020.
