Big Win for Classified School Workers: A Senate Joint Resolution Urging President Trump & Congress To Guarantee Rights to Classified Workers Goes to Washington
SACRAMENTO - Cafeteria workers, counselors, nurses, janitors and others in California’s public schools and community colleges scored a big win today when the state Assembly passed Senator Dave Cortese’s Senate Joint Resolution 2.
A joint resolution does not require the Governor’s signature to be effective meaning SJR 2 will now be formally sent to the U.S. Congress for consideration. This signifies the state of California’s position on school workers.
“SJR 2 urges President Donald Trump and the Congress of the United States to approve federal legislation guaranteeing specified rights to our public education workers that would, among other things, empower those employees to work in a stable, safe environment and receive livable and competitive wages, as provided,” said state Senator Dave Cortese, a longtime champion of labor who also served on a San Jose School Board.
“Senator Cortese has been a steadfast champion for California’s classified school workers, recognizing their critical role in our public schools. With SJR 2, he is standing up for the rights, wages, and protections these unsung heroes deserve,” said Jeff Freitas, CFT President.
