California Senate Extends Rent Relief

Senator Dave Cortese (D-Silicon Valley) made the following statement after the California Senate passed AB 2179 which extends portions of the COVID-19 Rental Housing Recovery Act to provide court eviction protections until June 30 to tenants with a pending rental assistance application submitted by March 31 and provide eviction protections for anyone who has a pending application by March 31:

“This legislation will extend critical protections and provide reprieve to those tenants that are still waiting for much-needed relief. We made a promise to protect our most vulnerable Californians, and I am grateful for the collaboration amongst my colleagues in both the Assembly and Senate and swift action taken to ensure stability and peace of mind for these families.”
