Community Seva Honored as Senator Cortese's Nonprofit of the Year for Senate District 15
San Jose – Senator Dave Cortese proudly recognizes Community Seva Inc. as Senate District 15's Nonprofit of the Year for 2024. This esteemed designation celebrates the organization's outstanding commitment to feeding the hungry and serving the homeless across the Bay Area.
Founded in 2013 by Nathan Ganeshan, Community Seva has evolved from a modest effort into a powerful volunteer movement with over 3,000 members. These volunteers have collectively contributed to serving over 320,000 meals, providing more than 2,000 mobile showers, and distributing over 10,000 essential items to those in need throughout nine cities in the Bay Area.
“The dedication of Community Seva to alleviating the struggles of those experiencing homelessness and hunger in our community is truly inspiring,” said Senator Cortese (D-San Jose). “Their comprehensive approach to service, grounded in compassion and community collaboration, has made a measurable difference in the lives of many. It is an honor to recognize such a vital organization as our Nonprofit of the Year."
“This recognition is a great testament to our mission—the care, compassion, and dignity that Community Seva volunteers have selflessly carried out for the last 11 years,” said Nathan Ganeshan, Founder and Board President of Community Seva. “This award also solidifies the partnership with our Senator’s office in serving our unhoused brothers & sisters.”
Under Ganeshan's leadership, Community Seva has not only focused on immediate needs, but also on broader initiatives that aim to empower and uplift individuals out of homelessness. Future plans include expanding services to offer job training and placement, further embodying the organization's holistic approach to support and service.
Community Seva's recognition as Nonprofit of the Year underscores the critical role that volunteerism and collective action play in addressing social challenges. As the organization continues its vital work, it serves as a beacon of hope and a model for community engagement and support.
