Dr. William T. Armaline, SJSU, Appointed to Racial and Identity Profiling Advisory Board

Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) has appointed Dr. William T. Armaline to the Racial and Identity Profiling Advisory (RIPA) Board. The President pro Tempore appointed Dr. Armaline to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of the last member.

“Racial and identity profiling and discrimination has no place on our streets or in our social justice system,” said Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins. “I am confident Dr. William Armaline will make a tremendously productive addition to the Racial and Identity Profiling Advisory Board’s important work to improve relations between communities and law enforcement.”

“I have full confidence in Dr. William Armaline and his ability to confront racial and identity bias and profiling in our communities,” said Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose). “I’d like to thank our President pro Tempore Toni Atkins for appointing a brilliant and accomplished local leader to serve our state in this capacity and for leading efforts to combat this longstanding moral and social concern.”

Dr. William T. Armaline is the founding Director of the Human Rights Institute at San José State University and an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences. Dr. Armaline earned a PhD and Masters in Sociology from the University of Connecticut. He is a member of the NAACP of San Jose/Silicon Valley and the Santa Clara County Hate Crimes Task Force. There is no compensation for this position.
