Raiders Silver & Black Icon Meets State Honor: Jim Plunkett Recognized with CA Senate Resolution
WHAT: California State Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose), in collaboration with the California Latino Legislative Caucus, will host a private reception in honor and recognition of former Mexican-American Raiders quarterback and two times Super Bowl Winner, Jim Plunkett. Mr. Plunkett was recently inducted into the National Football League’s (NFL) inaugural Hispanic Hall of Fame class.
Following the reception, Senator Cortese will present Senate Resolution 93 (SR 93) on the Senate Floor calling upon colleagues to support it. SR 93 urges the NFL’s Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee to induct Mr. Plunkett into its Pro Football Hall of Fame for the Class of 2027.
Jim Plunkett is widely recognized as the only eligible quarterback with two or more Super Bowl wins as a starter who has not been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He led the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders to victory in Super Bowl XV (winning MVP) and Super Bowl XVIII. SR 93 is meant to elevate his profile so that he may ultimately be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
