Senator Cortese Issues Statement on the Passing of State Superintendent Delaine Eastin

Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose) issued the following statement on the passing of Delaine Eastin, former State Superintendent of Public Instruction and Assemblymember representing portions of Alameda and Santa Clara counties:

“Delaine Eastin wove an enduring legacy in public education. As the only woman to hold the office of State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Delaine championed causes ranging from the reduction of class sizes to the advocacy for early education, leaving an indelible imprint upon California’s school system. Delaine was more than a colleague; she was a mentor and friend. We both graduated from the University of California, Davis, and have represented portions of Santa Clara County in the Legislature. Throughout our careers, we formed a bond rooted in mutual respect and support. Pattie and I extend our heartfelt condolences to Delaine Eastin’s family.”

Senator Dave Cortese represents Senate District 15, which encompasses most of San Jose and much of Santa Clara County in the heart of Silicon Valley. Visit Senator Cortese’s website: https://sd15.senate.ca.gov
