Senator Cortese’s Bill Making Access Into State Prisons Less of An Ordeal for Lawmakers, Legal Professionals and Others Clears the Assembly Public Safety Committee
SACRAMENTO – State Senator Dave Cortese’s SB 553 streamlining access to California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) facilities including prisons and other detention facilities by granting short-term clearance to legislators, legal professionals, and more without requiring repeated applications today was passed by the Assembly Public Safety Committee.
“My bill takes away barriers into our state’s prisons for people who need to see what is happening inside the walls of these facilities. These are people in positions where they can promote a more humane environment to rehabilitate people so they can be successful when they walk out of prison,” said Senator Dave Cortese (D-Silicon Valley.
SB 553 would grant access these people into prisons and other detention facilities without the need for a lengthy clearance process.
