SENATOR CORTESE’S STATEMENT ON BUDGET RECONCILIATION BILL

SACRAMENTO – The following statement was issued by State Senator Dave Cortese (D-Silicon Valley) after the U.S. House narrowly approved President Trump’s $3.3 trillion tax and spending bill by a 218-214 vote:

“This bill is a disaster for working families, filled with cruel and reckless decisions, and California must not sit on the sidelines. Washington is stripping away support for Californians by gutting programs people depend on, like health care, food assistance, college aid, wildfire prevention, and more, all while handing out billions in tax breaks to multi-millionaires and billionaires.

This bill is a direct threat to our economy, putting nearly 700,000 clean energy jobs right here in California at risk. On top of that, it defunds Planned Parenthood, FEMA, and the FBI, jeopardizes care for millions of patients, and pours billions into militarized and reckless raids that will tear families apart and completely destabilize communities.”
