Senator Cortese’s Statement on Julie Su's Nomination as Deputy Secretary of Labor

Senator Dave Cortese (D-Silicon Valley), chair of the California Senate Labor Committee, made the following statement regarding President Joe Biden’s planned nomination of California Labor Secretary Julie Su to serve as the United States Deputy Secretary of Labor.

“I commend President Joe Biden for his planned nomination of California Labor Secretary Julie Su to serve as the next United States Deputy Labor Secretary and I am thrilled to see a champion for workers’ rights chosen for this role.

“Su has led the California Labor & Workforce Development Agency during unprecedented times and has prioritized economic recovery efforts that assist our workers.

“In my capacity as Chair of the California Senate Labor Committee, I look forward to working with Secretary Su who I know will be a strong voice for workers and an exceptional partner in President-elect Joe Biden’s administration.”

Senator Cortese spearheaded the Santa Clara County Office of Labor Standard’s Enforcement as well as the Wage Theft and Living Wage Ordinances in Santa Clara County.
