Senator Cortese’s Statement in Support of SJSU’s Student Homeless Alliance

Senator Cortese (D-Silicon Valley) made the following statement in support of San Jose State University’s (SJSU) Student Homeless Alliance (SHA) today:

“I stand in solidarity with the Student Homeless Alliance and urge University leadership to better serve our unhoused student community through open communication, transparency, and accountability. We know that housing instability has a tremendous impact on our students’ academic outcomes, as well as their mental health. That is exactly why I am authoring Senate Bill 1341 that will provide support, financially stability, and a path to higher education to all of California’s homeless youth. Students should be focused on their education and fully engaging in their college experience, not on figuring out where they are going to sleep each night. I thank SHA for their advocacy, and for standing up for all college students facing housing insecurity.”

The SJSU Student Homeless Alliance (SHA) is holding a march and press conference urging SJSU President Perez to fully implement the 2020 SJSU-SHA Agreement regarding student homeless response.
