Statement from Senator Cortese on the Passing of Victor Garza

Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose) issued the following statement on the recent news of Victor Garza’s passing.

“Today our community is mourning the loss of a visionary leader and civil rights activist. The founder of La Raza Roundtable, Victor Garza created a coalition that has uplifted countless Latino and Mexican-American voices— advocating tirelessly for equity, social justice, and the rights of students and veterans. An advocate at heart, an unwavering commitment to the fight for civil rights can be seen in everything he has done. His passion and vision for our community have left a mark on California, inspiring many, and will continue to guide us for years to come. We have lost a giant today, but his legacy will live on in the work we do to create a fairer, more just society. My thoughts and prayers are with Victor's family and loved ones during this difficult time. I will be asking the Senate to adjourn in his memory.”
