Documentary: Santa Clara’s trip to the Home of Legendary Labor Leader Cesar Chávez
Andrés Chávez, grandson of Cesar Chávez, welcomes our group to the National Chávez Center.
Dear Neighbors,
In April, we organized the annual Pilgrimage to La Paz at the National Chávez Center in Keene, California. Two busloads of youth and Santa Clara County residents traveled with us for this gathering. On the 30th anniversary of his passing, the event honored Cesar Chávez' remarkable legacy in advocating for social justice and upholding human dignity. Attendees were able to learn about Chávez' lasting contributions to the labor movement and learn about his inspiring life.
This short documentary from the Social Ground Foundation not only captures the joyful spirit of the day, but it reveals fresh insights into the forces that empowered Cesar Chávez to become a legendary champion for workers, as narrated by his son Paul and grandson Andrés Chávez. I was present in 2012 when President Obama dedicated this site as a national monument. The film features some of the President’s powerful comments about how Cesar Chávez’ legacy shaped American history.

We’d like to thank Tim Alcorn and the Social Ground Foundation for creating this video as well as our La Paz Bus Trip sponsors: Cesar Chávez Foundation, Nuñez Community Foundation, Santa Clara County Supervisor Otto Lee, San Jose Councilmember Sergio Jimenez, and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Silicon Valley.
