The Senate and Assembly have approved an operating budget that is now headed to the Governor’s desk. Once signed into law, this budget package represents California’s spending plan that will be in place for the beginning of the new fiscal year on July 1.

The budget package totals $267.1 billion; $196.1 from the state’s General Fund, with total General Fund reserves at a record of $25.3 billion. Proposition 98 spending is also at a record $96.1 billion.

At a news conference earlier today, state and local leaders discussed an important announcement regarding recovery efforts following the horrific mass shooting that occurred at the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Guadalupe Rail Yard on May 26^th of this year.

The State Legislature today announced a “three-party deal” to provide relief and protections to tenants and small landlords in California. AB 832, which will be voted on by both the Senate and Assembly on Monday June 28^th, appropriates over $5 billion dollars in federal rental assistance and extends California’s rental assistance program and eviction moratorium, set in place through SB 91 and AB 3088, until September 30

Last year, California had one of the worst fire seasons on record. South Bay, East Bay, and Peninsula communities suffered through some of the biggest wildfires in our state’s history. This year, we are told the wildfire season may begin as early as July.

Local legislators are hosting an emergency preparedness training to educate residents about preparing in advance for events like wildfires, earthquakes, Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), and other emergencies to keep residents and their loved ones safe.
