Senator Cortese, (D-Silicon Valley), and Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley) believe it’s time to modernize the Brown Act to meet the unique needs of our present day.

The Ralph M. Brown Act was originally enacted in 1953 to govern the conduct of public meetings for local legislative bodies, but many provisions in the Brown Act remain antiquated.

Today, Senator Dave Cortese (D-Silicon Valley) introduced a bill to ensure access to critical treatment for those in need of substance use disorder and addiction recovery services. SB 999, titled the California Residential Substance Use Disorder Treatment Patient Safety and Fairness Act, will advance the way California deals with addiction recovery.




Today, Senator Cortese (D-Silicon Valley), Chair of the Senate Labor, Public Employment and Retirement Committee, introduced SB 1004 to invest in and expand apprenticeship programs statewide.

SB 1004 would establish a five percent bid preference for public works contractors that are active participants in state-approved apprenticeship programs.
